Princeton Public Schools offers a robust and rigorous curriculum beginning with our high-quality High/Scope Preschool program through our highest level courses at Princeton High School. Supervisors and teachers work on an ongoing basis to update and align curriculum for the changing needs of today’s learners.  The most current curriculum standards which include technology and 21st century learning skills are continually incorporated into the curriculum and instructional design at all levels.  At the bottom of this page, you will find more information about the curriculum mapping process used at Princeton Public Schools.

Curriculum and Standards:

We are in the process of moving our curriculum from paper to online curriculum maps.  At this time, you can access our K-5 curriculum maps directly through the link below.  Our curriculum has been aligned to the New JerseyCore Curriculum Content Standards linked below.  The Program of Studies documents for grades 3 - 8 and 9 - 12 also provide an overview of the academic programs offered in the Princeton Public Schools.

Curriculum Mapping Process and Information:

In 2007, we began to place our curriculum documents into electronic “maps” that are accessible to all of our teachers and administrators.  These curriculum maps have created a mechanism to communicate content expectations for all teachers such that our district can gain consistency and coherence across all content areas.   Teachers and Supervisors use this tool, the Rubicon Atlas system, to design curriculum and instruction with attention to the progression of topics from year to year as well as interdisciplinary projects at particular grade levels.

Our K-5 curriculum maps are available on the grade level links above as well as the Rubicon link above.  As you review the K-5 curriculum maps, you will notice that they are organized into units with essential questions, enduring understandings, content and skills. This format follows the Understanding by Design (UbD) approach to curriculum development. This framework allows teachers to design their instruction with meaningful activities that lead to the desired learning outcomes as evidenced by assessments that reveal student understanding.
